Small tumbled, polished and drilled stone chips, strung on an 80 to 90 cm strand: chip strands are the most affordable raw material in natural stone beading, and one of the most versatile. They're used for chip bracelets, long necklaces, dreamcatchers, copper wire trees of life and any creation that calls for volume and colour without geometric regularity. Choosing your strands

A chip strand is judged by the uniform size of its chips (5 to 8 mm), the polish and the consistency of the drilling. The most popular stones: amethyst, rose quartz, green aventurine, clear quartz, citrine, garnet, peridot, lapis lazuli, carnelian, turquoise, and multicolour mixes.

What works in the workshop

One strand makes three to four bracelets or one long necklace; copper wire trees of life use one strand per tree. For shops that don't do their own beading, ready-made chip bracelets meet the same need; raw stones on string and tumbled stones on string offer other textures.
