Choosing your pieces

A green opal is judged on the uniformity of its colour, its translucency at the edges and its polish; brownish veins are part of the stone. Pebbles and free forms measuring 5 to 8 cm are the best sellers. Opal is sensitive to thermal shock: avoid hot water and prolonged direct sunlight.
