Citrine, the sun-colored quartz
A yellow to orange variety of quartz, citrine owes its color to traces of iron. Crystal healing tradition regards it as the stone of abundance, joy and confidence (solar plexus chakra); it is the "merchant's stone", often placed near the till, which makes it a ready-made selling point for your shop clients. Hardness 7: it withstands water and daily wear, but fades over time in direct sunlight.
Choosing quality, and naming it correctly
Most citrines on the market, bright orange to orangey-brown with a white base, are heat-treated amethysts: this is legal and common, but a professional should know it and say so. Natural citrine, pale yellow to honey yellow, more subtle, mainly comes from Brazil and Zambia. Arabesk specifies the origin of the color on every reference. Quality is judged by transparency and color uniformity.
What sells in stores
Tumbled stones, points and clusters (crystal formations) for decoration and the prosperity section, 6 or 8 mm beaded bracelets and 925 silver pendants. It pairs with pyrite and green aventurine in an "abundance" trio, and with clear quartz and amethyst for the quartz family.
