Howlite, the white stone with grey veins
A chalky white borosilicate threaded with fine grey to black veins, howlite is one of the best-selling white stones, both in its own right and as a base for dyeing. Crystal healing tradition makes it the stone of calm, patience and sleep, often recommended against stress. Hardness 3.5: it scratches easily and must be kept away from harder stones on display stands.
Choosing quality, and naming it correctly
White howlite is judged by the whiteness of the matrix and the fineness of its veining. Its porosity makes it the ideal base for dyed stones: blue howlite sold as "turquenite" imitates turquoise, and there are also red, green or purple versions. Arabesk always names these products "dyed howlite" or "turquenite", never turquoise: it is a matter of trust with your own customers. The reference deposit is in Canada, and most of today's market comes from the United States and China.
