Rutilated quartz, the crystal with golden needles
Rock crystal crossed with golden, copper or red rutile needles, sometimes so dense it is called "Venus hair", rutilated quartz is one of the most spectacular included quartz varieties. Crystal healing tradition considers it a stone of energy, clarity and amplification, said to "activate" other stones. Hardness 7: it withstands water and daily wear.
Choosing your quality
Rutilated quartz is judged by the transparency of the quartz and its density, as well as the shine and color of the needles: clearly visible golden needles in a clear crystal indicate AA quality; a milkier quartz with scattered inclusions indicates A quality, perfect for tumbled stones and bracelets. Brazil (Minas Gerais) is the reference deposit, along with Madagascar. Polished collector pieces are selected one by one.
