Green opal, the softness of a translucent green
A common opal, without play of color, ranging from apple green to translucent olive green, green opal comes mainly from Peru and Madagascar; it is the sister of pink opal in the opal family. Crystal healing tradition makes it the stone of renewal, relaxation and reconnection to nature (heart chakra). Hardness 5.5 to 6.5 and a hydrated stone: it fears heat, shocks and drying out, but can be worn worry-free as a bracelet.
Choosing your quality
A green opal is judged by the freshness and uniformity of its green color and its translucency: a bright apple green indicates AA quality, a more opaque olive green indicates A quality, highly sought after in bulk. Rough stones often show a white crust that highlights the green. Arabesk indicates the origin and sorts bead lots by shade.
