Larimar, the blue stone of the Dominican Republic
A blue variety of pectolite, larimar exists in only one place in the world, in the mountains of Barahona in the Dominican Republic. Its sky blue marbled with white evokes the Caribbean Sea, making it a stone of strong emotional value: lithotherapy tradition credits it with gentleness, calm and communication (throat chakra). Hardness 4.5 to 5: best presented as a jewelry and collector's stone rather than for intensive handling.
Choosing your quality
Larimar is graded by the intensity of its blue and the fineness of its marbling: a deep blue with clear patterns signals AA quality, a paler, more uniform blue signals A quality.
