Septarian, the stone with golden veins
A nodule of hardened mud, cracked then healed by yellow calcite and brown aragonite, septarian (or septarian nodule) displays a network of golden fissures on a grey-brown background: each piece is unique. The finest nodules come from Madagascar. Crystal healing tradition regards it as a stone of grounding, patience and public speaking. Hardness 3 to 4, varying by zone: it is a decorative and collector's stone, not for bathing.
Choosing your quality
Septarian is chosen based on the contrast between the dark matrix and the calcite veins: the sharper, more contrasted and regular the network, the more sought-after the piece. AA quality spheres and polished pieces sometimes show small calcite crystal geodes at the heart of the fissures.
