Rhodochrosite, the banded pink of Argentina
A manganese carbonate in raspberry pink streaked with pale bands, rhodochrosite is the national stone of Argentina, where the Capillitas deposit yields the finest pieces. Crystal healing tradition regards it as the stone of self-love and emotional healing (heart chakra), in keeping with rose quartz. Hardness 3.5 to 4: to be presented as a jewelry and collector's stone, kept away from shocks and water.
Choosing your quality
Value is judged by the contrast of the bands and the saturation of the pink: a vivid pink with clearly defined banding signals AA quality, while a paler pink with diffuse banding indicates A quality. Translucent pieces, which are rare, are reserved for jewelry. Arabesk offers rhodochrosite as selected tumbled stones, cabochons and set in 925 silver, with the origin indicated.
